Members of our ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱcommunity have been deeply impacted by discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence, among other problems outlined in the (´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱReview) conducted by Rubin Thomlinson and published by the University in June 2023. The University is committed to providing resources and supports to members of our community who have been and continue to be affected.
In the wake of the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱReview report, ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱrecognizes the need to acknowledge these problems and to further engage in consultation with our community members. Listening, discussion, and learning will help ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱto identify the actions that need to be taken to ensure the fair treatment of all ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱcommunity members and to increase the safety for our students and employees.
´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱalso acknowledges the need to rebuild trust on campus and within the broader community. This will take consistent and organized efforts across the University to demonstrate our commitment to community members. Rebuilding trust will also entail demonstrating greater accountability through increased transparency, communication, collaboration, and timely efforts to improve policies, processes, and practices.
´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱis committed to addressing the recommendations in the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱReview report. In an effort to seek further input and guidance, ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱengaged internal and external University community members through a UPEI Action Plan Advisory Group. As a result of the group's work, the University released the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý²ÊƱAction Planin March 2024 to guide decisions and actions in the days, months, and years ahead so that pathways to improvements are well-informed, meaningful, and effectively address the problems identified.
